Square Enix has confirmed story, character, and battle system information for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII remake released on PS4 next March.
The remake of the classic 1997 RPG will be released in several parts and promises new episodes showcasing the charms of the game’s iconic Midgar setting.
The story follows former soldier Cloud, who has joined the ecological group Avalanche to oppose Shinra Electric Power Company. Headquartered in Midgar, the company has been draining Lifestream and placing the life of the planet as a whole in jeopardy. In addition to this, Cloud soon finds himself in a fateful meeting with a flower seller possessing special powers.
Each of the characters will have their own unique strengths - while Cloud specialises in close combat swordplay, Aerith is skilled in magic. Players will also be able to switch between characters at the touch of a button and issue commands to others without needing to switch.
Players can also use the ATB Gauge to activate abilities, magic, and items while the original edition’s “limit break”, Materia, and summoned monsters have all been maintained.
Spread over two Blu-Ray discs, the game will also boast beautiful visuals recreating the original game’s iconic locations.
Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released on March 3, 2020.
