MICHI Sings Opening Song to “Dagashi Kashi”; Music Video Includes 19 Types of Hidden Candies | Music News

The TV anime will begin broadcasting on TBS and other networks in Japan on Jan. 7, 2016. The anime, based on a 4-panel manga serialized in Shogakukan’s , is a charming comedy filled with jokes about candy.

MICHI, who has achieved sudden stardom as the first anisong singer from Okinawa, is in charge of the anime’s theme song. She met the challenge with “Checkmate!?”, a song performed with an all-girl band. The song will be released on CD Jan. 27, 2016.

Along with the announcement, a music video for “Checkmate!?” was also produced. And to top it off, it’s filled with homages to . Just like the anime the obsession is on candy.

A highlight of the music video is the appearance of nostalgic candy among the various sets used in the video. There are those easy to spot like the ones MICHI herself picks up, and then there’s others casually placed around - the total in all being 19. A short version of the video was released on Dec. 21, and even in this one there are 10 kinds of candy that appear. Viewers will likely enjoy hearing her latest song while searching for the candy hidden throughout the video.

MICHI is currently 19 years old. She recently made her debut with the theme song to the July 2015 TV anime . With her straight and extensive vocal range and abundantly expressive power, MICHI is expected to become a next generation anisong singer.

Having recorded the music video, MICHI commented, “It’s been half a year since my debut and I still have a long way to go, but I will work harder and harder so that I can enjoy it along with everyone who listens to my music!”

tells the slapstick story of Kokonotsu Shikada, whose father runs the Shikada Cheap Sweets candy shop, and Hotaru Shidare, a rich girl with an obsessive love of candy.
